Fighting Mismanagement in the Ann Arbor Public Schools District

they don't have to worry about answers"

Since, by State law, schools are exempt from zoning, they are therefore exempt from site planning (except for stormwater management).

So, any school built on this site would have to have water and sewer provided by the City of Ann Arbor.

However, since it is not currently in the City of Ann Arbor, other things need not happen.

  • The site is approximately 111 acres.
  • The site is very near other, known archaeological sites where interesting artifacts were found.

If this site were located inside the limits of the City of Ann Arbor, either of those facts alone would be enough to trigger an automatic archaeological study... if this were not a school.

We can only hope that the District will see fit to order an archaeological study voluntarily. This of course would have to happen soon, as the November 10, 2004 deadline for bond funding approaches, and it would seem wrong to proceed with any plan that didn't have all detailed studies (traffic, safety, environmental, and even archaeological) finsihed before committing to a site.
