A Board member, in 11/04, quoted an Ann Arbor News article in its use of SEMCOG data to show that traffic in the area around the site is not as dangerous as those who live in the area believe it to be. However, the data was incorrect.

The statistics quoted said that between 1997 and 2002, there was only one fatality on Maple Road. In fact, from data we collected from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's office, there were three fatal accidents in 2001 alone.

It is the responsibility of the Administration and the Board to get valid data on which to base decisions. Why should it be up to the public to do the job that is the responsibiligy of the AAPS? Why do the Administration and the Board refuse to hear valid information and concerns?

Information from the City of Ann Arbor Police Department:

Miller/Maple intersection (or within about 100 feet of it)

2 of which resulted in minor injury (1: driver pulling out of a private drive; 1 disregarding red light)

N. Maple (north of Miller up to the M-14 overpass)
6 accidents total (handled by the City Police at the request of the State)
5 of which were on the ramp, 1 of which was actually on Maple
1 of the 6 resulted in minor injury as someone pulled out from the ramp onto Maple

Miller, west of Maple
